Clothes that don't smell fresh can be a real bummer. Don't know about you but I feel an extra energized when i'm putting on something that smells fresh.  Let's cover common reasons why clothes lose their freshness and then some tips to make your clothes smell good.

Common Reasons Why Your Clothes Smell

  1. Sweat - Bacteria grow where theres warmth and sweat. They can create a bad odor on your clothes, especially if you don't wash them regularly. If you exercise a lot you'll notice that synthetic gym clothes often have smell that you can't get rid of. Once bacteria is stuck there, its too late.

  2. Mildew - If your clothes are stored in a damp or humid environment, they can develop a mildew smell.

  3. Long List Of Others- Smoke, cooking, perfumes, pets, working can all leave smells on your clothes.

How Can I Get Rid Of These Smells?

  1. Use a good detergent and fabric softener to help remove odors and keep clothes smelling fresh.

  2. For synthetics, if you sweat a lot, soak it in water as soon as possible so it doesn't just soak it its own sweat and grow until your next wash.

  3. Add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to helps to breaking down and dissolve the compounds that cause the odor and balacing the PH levels.

  4. Don't dry your clothes fully and hang your clothes in sun outside in fresh air to help remove odors.

  5. Use an odor-eliminating spray specifically designed for fabrics. All natural fabrics such as modal and lyocell have anti-odor properties that make it more difficult for bacteria growth.

  6. For tough odors, soak clothes in a mixture of water and baking soda or vinegar before washing.

  7. Add a dryer sheet or a couple of drops of essential oil to the dryer cycle to help add a fresh scent to your clothes.
